About

Putu is a Senior Advisor for Epidemiology within PHF Science's Health Intelligence and Surveillance Team. Since joining PHF Science in 2022, she has led and contributed to surveillance and research on a range of portfolios, including sexually transmitted infections, mpox, invasive group A streptococcal infection, and meningococcal disease. Prior to PHF Science, Putu held both research and applied epidemiologist roles. As a Research Scientist, she developed and led a number of studies, including in Canada, Indonesia, Argentina, and Uganda to better understand and address sexual and reproductive health inequities among sex workers and women living with HIV. At the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, she co-supervised graduate and medical students, and lectured on various topics including epidemiology and research methods, the HIV epidemic, and manuscript writing. Putu also has a strong interest in child protections research, having worked as the technical lead for research at the University of Indonesia’s Center on Child Protection and Wellbeing. As an applied epidemiologist, Putu played a key role in the COVID-19 response in Nova Scotia, Canada, as well as the province’s Early Years public health programme. She has also worked in tobacco prevention and control at the WHO’s South-East Asia Regional Office in Delhi, India.
