About

Alex has always had a passion for problem-solving and finding streamlined solutions to complex challenges. She joined the Physical Evidence team straight out of university having completed her PhD in methamphetamine chemistry in 2022 where she assessed the public health risks of methamphetamine remediation. Alex enjoys the multi-faceted and diverse opportunities that her job at PHF Science offers. As part of her role in the Physical Evidence team, Alex is involved in the analysis of a variety of trace evidence types including ignitable liquid residues, lubricants, DNA collection, and supports more senior team members with examination of firearms. Alex also puts her expertise to use as a member of the Clandestine Laboratory scene-attendance staff and assists the Drug Chemistry team with the characterisation and identification of novel illicit substances. Alex is also involved in the analysis of samples for controlled drugs in border shipments submitted to the Customs-PHF Science-screening laboratory. On top of her role in the lab, Alex enjoys participating in the supervision team at PHF Science, helping out with Masters and PGDip students as well as with the delivery of teaching laboratory material at the University of Auckland.
