Sample requirements

Faecal specimen positive by rotavirus antigen test or by PCR/NAT. Minimum 0.25 g or 0.25 mL.

Pre-transport requirements

Store faecal specimen at 5 ± 3°C for up to 2 weeks, otherwise freeze at -20°C.

Transport requirements

Ambient temperature within 24 hours.

Unacceptable sample types

Specimens received without a form, with insufficient material to analyse, or in poorly labelled or leaking containers will not be tested. Insufficient sample (< 0.25 g or < 0.25 mL) may be rejected.

How results reported

Presence or absence of rotavirus by RT-qPCR (for confirmation of rotavirus presence). Genotyping report will follow.
