Bruce is a Chartered Director, also holding directorships with the Bioeconomy Science Institute and the Accreditation Council. Bruce has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in science from the University of Sheffield, UK, and is the former Chief Operating Officer of Plant & Food Research. He has extensive experience in developing innovation strategies that link science and business to benefit prosperity, nature and people. Bruce is a recipient of the 2023 Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, 2017 Prime Minister’s Science Prize, 2017 Horticulture New Zealand Industry Service Award, and 2016 Royal Society Te Apārangi Thomson Medal for outstanding leadership of agricultural and horticultural science.
