Demonstration of the presence of an OXA-48-like carbapenemase gene by PCR.
OXA-48-like carbapenemases are most commonly identified in Klebsiella pneumoniae and other Enterobacterales. OXA-48-like β-lactamases confer resistance to carbapenems, but not the extended-spectrum cephalosporins nor monobactams.
This test is appropriate for isolates that screen positive for carbapenemase in the CLSI modified carbapenem inactivation method.
