Te Niwha was the first phase of national Government investment into infectious diseases research. A second investment phase is being led by Infectious Diseases Research Aotearoa.

- Established for a three-year funding term (2022 to 2025) to strengthen New Zealand's preparedness and response to infectious disease threats.
- Included more than 300 researchers across 95-plus projects.

- Built capability, partnerships and knowledge that now form the foundation of the Infectious Diseases Research Platform.
